Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Prepare the Cardboard Wreath Base

Cut a circular shape from the cardboard to create the base of your wreath. You can use a large round object as a template or draw a circle freehand. Cut out the centre to create a wreath shape.

Step 2: Paint the Wreath Base

Paint the cardboard wreath base using brown paint to represent the earth. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 3: Create the Egg Cup Poppies

Paint the inside of the egg cups with red paint to create poppy flowers. Let the paint dry, and then glue the egg cups onto the wreath base, arranging them in a circular pattern. These egg cup poppies will be the centrepiece of your wreath.

Step 4: Craft Paper Lest We Forget Banner (optional)

Cut out rectangular pieces from black paper and write “Lest We Forget” using white paint or a white pencil. Glue the ends of the rectangular pieces onto the wreath base, draping the banner across the top.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Consider adding paper leaves or small green accents around the egg cup poppies to enhance the visual appeal. These subtle details bring a sense of life to your wreath. On this page you will find a free leaf printable.

Step 6: Hang and Reflect

Attach a piece of twine or ribbon to the back of the wreath for hanging. Find a special place to display your ANZAC Day wreath or take it to an Anzac day service.

Tips for Crafting Success

  • Personalization: Encourage children to add their artistic touches, whether adding extra decorations or using their unique handprints to create poppy petals.
  • Age-Appropriate: Adjust the project’s complexity based on the participants’ age and skill level.
  • Educational Element: Take the opportunity to discuss the history and significance of ANZAC Day with your children as you craft together.
